The Domain Change…

I have finally managed to get a domain name for myself. I couldn’t find a name that would fit in. Asked my friends to suggest names. Suggestions included

jerrysalcove.com

jerrymouse.com

And finally after 3 months of confusion and laziness, i’ve finally decided to go for jerrymannel.com. Whats wrong in having a site by your name? Mine being a common name, it was quite difficult to get an address until i added ‘mannel‘ to it.

So friends here it is – from http://jerryreghunadh.worpress.com to http://jerrymannel.com

congrats Jerry. I didn’t know that the blog stats didn’t change! I guess it’s because you continued with wordpress? Have you got what they call an upgrade?

    Thanks Nita.
I’m sorry, i’m being dumb i guess, but i didnt get what you were asking me. Could you please rephrase it… :)

I’m probably the dumb one! :) I am a completely non-techy kind of person. I meant, how did you go about the whole thing…your domain name change and all that without it affecting your blog stats.

    ohh that … ;)
My blog is still hosted at wordpress. I bought a domain and then went to Options>Domain tab. There you can give the new domain name and make the changes to the nameservers as they have mentioned.
    That will do.
So basically, the posts still residing at wordpress, i dont lose out on the stats either.
The thing is to make the wordpress blog point to the domain you need to buy 10credits i.e. 10$. so roughly put the total cost for the domain and the upgrade of worpress comes t0 495+400
BTW i bought the domain from rediff, they have an offer on .in domains for 199/-, if you are planning to switch…
    :) hope this helped …

what about the links? Do you lose the links to your old blog?

  6. Nita / Nov 25 2007

    and ofcourse it helped! thanks!

Basically when you do a domain addition in worpress, you just refer your blog as http://www.xyz.com rather than http://www.xyz.wordpress.com.
Internally xyz.com is mapped to xyz.wordpress.com, so in effect you dont lose on any links.
And there is no question of loosing your old blog, its like this – as a kid Bunty’s address goes as
    Bunty,
    s/o Bunty’s Father,
    Bunty Villa

But as Bunty gets older and is known in society, he drops the ’s/o’ part. So now we have
    Bunty,
    Bunty Villa

And still gets all the mail, even the mail that comes with the ’s/o’ part.
Ok i agree its a bad example, but thats how basically it is … :)
Hope u get it? Else let me know… i’ll be more than glad to help…
