Something Every Critic should know…

While reading Sanjukta’s post onTaare Zameen Par | Review Rip Off, it struck me that critics generally dont do justice to a persons work. (and thats why we call them Critics.. moron..). Though a lifetimes work might have gone into a creation, let that be the movie, songs, art, nothing escapes the critics noose.

Critics are necessary to build something of artistic value by pointing areas of improvement. But these days Critics have become art destroyers. They pointlessly rip apart a movie/art, like a sex maniac on a rape rampage, and goes on to publish their work for the bitter enjoyment of the masses as an accomplishment…

In the movie Ratatouille(2007), Anton Ego is a mean Food Critic, but at the end of the movie he goes on to give this critique :

…In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new… (read more)

This i say, every critic should read and understand before they wake up the rampaging art rapist in them.

Negetive criticism is fun to write and read..So true…That’s why they do it, but so unfair. I personally feel no body has the right to judge a piece of art / creativity as good and bad in general.. They (critics/reviewers) should just write what ‘they’ think about it.

    Thanks for linking me Jerry.

Well that’s the thing, I found Saawariya so bad that it nearly drove me to suicide so I ripped it. That’s what all critics do anyway, what’s the point you’re trying to make?

@2s – you found Saawariya bad and you ripped it apart too. we all can agree or atleast a majority can agree that the movie was a total waste of time, effort and money.

What i was trying to say is that, the general consensus of the people is that Critics always rips apart what is good and what is liked by the vox populi. Take Masad from IBN, i have neer seen him appreciate a movie. Its like his sole existence is to kill a movie with negative criticism and feed it to the people, who seems to enjoy it like their daily ‘Kunki’ soaps.

After reading such a verdict, people are jaundiced, they fail to appreciate a good story. The moment they enter the theater all they want to see is the flawed scene in the movie and crib about it.

Rather than senseless verdicts, critics must consider their verdict that could help an average movie goer to enjoy the movie and appreciate it.

Rip it off if its totally hopeless… thats fine by me …
