Good for you that you dont seem to have a problem with the southie accent. But things are not fabricated and i neednt do cheap publicity. I dont need a flame-war. Things that i have written is from my experience and by quoting similar experiences of my friends.

I hurts to lose a reader, but i stand by what i wrote. if not there is no point in my writings.

North Indians do not have a problem with or mock South Indians as much as the Southies believe. I’m a North Indian staying in South India and have no problems with my southie friends. High time we start treating India for what it is, ONE country !

I’ve been reading your blog for some time and I’m actually quite disappointed by your views in this post. Disappointed enough to try and not visit it again.

And btw, when was the last time you called a Manipuri a Manipuri or a sikkimese a sikkimese and not referred to them as a Chinky !

I am sad about the embarrassment you might have felt when you were introduced to a group of Northies and they asked “Aap log Madrasi ?”. I am a North Indian and have spent 28 years of my life but believe me the north indians have no grudge against “south indians”. It’s only that Chennai/Bangalore is far down the South, they are not able to genuinely identify out of ignorance. North Indians have a jolly nature and they don’t allow local barriers to divide the social fabric. That’s the reason if you by mistake point any North Indian a Bihari/UP/Haryanvi, they will not feel that bad because they understand that this has come out of your ignorance. I agree that North Indians are brunt in speaking compared to South but again that’s their culture and they don’t keep fighting among themselves because of that!!
My point here is we should increase our tolerance to accept people from different parts of our country and should not be so much thoughtful about our identity. Each of our heritage values are deep rooted and they can’t be so delicate to be let down by words. We need to come before the world as a nation built from a conglomerate of states respecting each other identity. Remember Human civilization can only benefit if it has tolerance imbued in it driven among different sections of society.

2 weeks ago we were introduced to a group of northies and when we said we were from Bangalore pat came the question ” Aap log Madrasi ?”. I corrected that we were Kannadigas, but it did not seem to register. My wife jumped in where I was failing and asked “Aap log northies hai ? ” and upon them affirming persisted with ” Bihari ? ” . Got a horrified ” NOOO !”. ” UP Bhaiyya ?” she continued and they saw the point …

This is again another bullshit between North Indians and South Indians. You know, that’s constitute the main reason for India coming in 2010 and lying way back in 1200 B.C. You people are sick of arguing on who is the best…are South Indians best or North Indians smarter?

Hindi…well some gentleman pointed out that Hindi is not a national language..the first logical thought to it..if you are given a right to choose a national language, will you select a language spoken by 70% population or the one spoken by remaining 30%. At least be responsible to your nation and start thinking on national front. Secondly, Article 343 of the Indian Constitution recognizes Hindi in Devan?gar? script as the official language of the Union Government. Article 345 provides constitutional recognition to “official languages” of the union to include any one or more of the languages in use in the state or Hindi language adopted by a state legislature as the official language of that state. But yes, I agree that Hindi is not a national language because of some people who take this as an issue of establishing their identity.

I can’t understand from where South Indians have developed an inferiority complex that they are isolated and looked down upon by North Indians. They keep nurturing this kind of attitude and find solace in putting a blame on North Indians. It’s like somebody burning out of selfishness and creating havoc in the life of others. Leave this attitude, stop thinking about that you are side-lined and you become a part of a glorious nation. But if you keep indulging in a blaming game and mud slinging you gotta reach nowhere.

So think and then act!!

We were never a nation before britishers came in. We united to defeat a common enemy. We are different countries subscribing to the Indian union for our own progress. Enforcing an alien language like Hindi in South India, Karnataka in particular will have disasterous consequences. Those who come here must know the saying “be a roman in rome”. If you are so keen on national language, then lets have English as our national langauge, as that is what is understood by many in the south, and which is also spoken the world over. What fckin good it will bring by learning hindi.

Hindi is not our national language and there is no mention of this in the constitution. Refer Article 349 n 351. Hindi is just another official languages along with 18 other languages.

Now such qns dont suit an Indian.. “just because its “called” National Language.”

Russians feel proud about talkin in Russian at international forums. Chinese feel proud of their language… And to list other nations, maybe the comment section wud take up the whole page.

So whats the damn issue in Indians feeling proud of Hindi? Hindi is spoken by a vast majority of Indians. But still there are groups of Indians who feel that it shudnt be the national language and feel proud in talking in English. Don’t know what the pblm is…

And just to satisfy you and many others who mite react to this comment, I myself am not from a Hindi speaking state but still… I am proud of one of the identities of our country – Our National Language – Hindi!!!
