No to WWW

Say www.google.com and try google.com

Try www.wordpress.com and try saying wordpress.com

Definitely saying some site as xyz.com is better than www.xyz.com. Its such a nuisance. Ya its shows the WWW or World Wide Web, but we no longer require that anymore. A simple xyx.com will suffice in many cases and these days almost all the sites are now linking to http://<their-name>.com.

Its saves space, ink and say a second or two while saying too. Enter blog button No to WWW

No-www.org philosophy

No-www.org strives to make the Internet and communications about it as fruitful as possible. To that end, we make the modest proposal that website makers configure their main sites to be accessible by domain.com as well as www.domain.com.

WWW was for the 20th century and we are now in the 21st century. All the browsers completes the name by a .com or .<whatever> by Ctrl+Return key combination.

No-www has classified the entire n/w into 3 classes – A/B/C

class a No to WWW This is the most common no-www compliance level. With class A domains, example.net and www.example.net are both valid methods of reaching this website. Many servers default to this.

class b No to WWW Class B is currently the optimal no-www compliance level. This classification helps remind users that, while the www subdomain is accepted, it is not necessary. In Class B, www.example.net is a valid address, but it redirects all traffic to example.net.

class c No to WWW Class C is the most stringent compliance level. According to no-www, www.example.net is an invalid subdomain. All traffic must go to example.net in order to view the site. Very few sites currently hold this classification, partially because many internet users are not yet savvy enough to drop the www every time. For that reason, this classification is not recommended for sites that serve the general public.

More Faqs at no-www

Some interesting reading – It’s Time to Drop the “www”, especially read the comments, it really throws some arguments for and against the no-www movement and some really interesting info like people who type their e-mail ids as abc@www.<some-free-mail>.com.
