Deadly Competition

What we do these days involves competition. No matter what. A a kid we race to the gate and back. As teens we race our bikes. As adults we race against time and colleagues. The time that we live in Competition is viewed as the source of creativity and self improvement. As a kid we are expected to be the top scorer in the class, not the smartest, as teens we are expected to be responsible but not creative and as the workforce we are expected to bring in profit and not innovation.

Why does competition has to be so bad? Slowly but steadily everyone starts to keeps expectations out of you and keeps reminding you about that. You fall victim to it losing your creativity. Its because we want to beat that record and get our names in there. We benchmark every thing everyday, we fall into The Curse of Great Expectation.

But what about creativity? If i have ever done anything that is creative or innovated an idea, its because i didn’t take part in a race. On the same grounds i hate taking exams too. Exams for me is again about breaking records and false derivatives. With time being most valued, exams seems to be the only way people want to find talents.

There is a trend with the organizations now. They are still competing and very much in the race. They do it in more ‘innovative’ ways. They ask you to just innovate and come up with some thing very brilliant. Even if you didn’t mean that to be part of any race or drive the race. Its used by the organization to outrun their competitor.

The human cost to win the organization’s race or the cost of health on onself is often disregarded. But what happens to those who stay out of the competition and decide to be .. uhh .. say free. They have immense potential to be creative and inventive. But why don’t they?.

The Society is stereotyped in believing that competing is the best way to progress. So much of the things that these so called ‘free birds’ innovate are considered inferior. They eventually gets into the race to survive or fall.

I knew of a person during my college days. He was this extra brilliant guy. There wasn’t much that he couldn’t answer about technology. Few professors realized his potential. But but the rest of the folks were unforgiving. Had the mentoring right he wouldn’t had to settle for a rather uhhh normal techie kind of job with an average company.

Its time we wake up to say no to the unwanted competitions around us.

Please shout i cant hear a thing !!!

We Indians over do things. Yes we really do. We over do things to such an extend that it irritates the person next to you. Dont believe me? We add too much chili into the curry it turns spicy, we add more than required water to the sambar served at local idli shop, too much masala into the little gossip, politicians overdoing corruption leading to them being caught, too much ‘Kyun Ki’ soaps that irritates at the prime time so on and on and on …

Diwali was also no different. With all the fireworks going around, it reminded me of the worst gas trouble one can have – you feel relived when you do it, but you don’t want to do it again and again, but the only way out is to do it. Oh my God! Crackers; big-small-medium going up bang bang in front of you, behind you, on top of you and say where not – is good for a day; second day – oh not(why) again ; third day – a bad handover of screaming at the top of your voice just to talk to the person next to you – very very bad. See this is what i was referring to as ‘overdoing’.

I was all too confused when the ‘real’ Diwali was – was it thursday/friday/saturday – coz all the time it was bang! bang! bang!. Unfortunately on Sunday night too. There was an on going effort by a group for a cracker free Diwali. First of all what were they thinking. Diwali without crackers?? Hell no!!! But in a way i support that, better to avoid it rather than ending up overdoing it and having an aversion towards it.Come one cant we just do anything at the right level. Leave alone the amount of pollution caused by this out of proportionate celebration.

Many a times its like, we just dont know when to draw the line, or just when to say ‘enough’.

Gandhiji’s Talisman : Give it a thought.

Gandhijis Talisman : Give it a thought.

Does any one remember Gandhiji’s Talisman? Yes .. a vague idea? You have seen it some where right. Let me help. Remember the NCERT text books back in school, the facing page of the topics, in a nice little box, written in bold ink was Gandhiji’s Talisman. ncert Gandhijis Talisman : Give it a thought.

Here it is again :

Gandhiji’s Talisman:

I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him. Will he gain anything by it? Will it restore him to a control over his own life and destiny ? In other words, will it lead to Swaraj (i.e. self-rule) for the hungry and spiritually starving millions ?

Then you will find your doubts and your self melting away.

I don’t know if they still have it in the text books, but it was there when i was in school. It never made sense to me when i was in school. I do remember reading it over and over again, trying to find the intent of the adage. Finally after school and after a long time, some how the Talisman found its way back into my head and then it struck me. The meaning is so simple and yet very powerful. If our leaders had heeded to this simple idea a long time back we wouldn’t be, may be, in such a messed up situation.

Not just the political scenario, but when this simple rule is applied, i’m not saying all the time, when ever in doubt and confusion, the results could astoundingly simple. This one has been put into the text books of your kids, we tell them to read and in the mean time we spoil their innocence.

Here education is seen as a means to mis-interpret Holy Books, promote hatred and invent innovative ways for “Angry Mob Put to your Gain”.

Ponder over IT.

All in the name of GOD

Remember : In the name of Ram???
The proposed ship route over the Pak Straight between India and Sri Lanka has stirred up quite and uproar. While the government plans at reduced cost and time in traversing all long the Sri Lankan cost to reach the Bay of Bengal ports, we have the religious fanatics spear-headed by BJP, opposing it.

Now every one seems to be in a heated debate over what should be done. People are arguing whether Ram exited or not? We are deliberately owing our subordination as mere pawn in the hands of reckless politicos and in the war of Religious Rascals.

The world has seen no good when such differences are allowed to propagate. I havent understood why they hell do they have to debate over Ram’s existence? Why dont they see the teachings that he has put forward? Ram is epitomized as the perfect man, true to his word and principles and only listed in doing good and helping others.

The old has to give way for the new, whether it be the land owned by you, me or even George Bush. Then why the hell debate on it and cause interruptions in parliament. We already wasted crores of money in the form of parliament interruptions than the money ever required to feed every poor in India.

While we still debate why a bull shitting bull must die or should we waste crores, just to preserve some thing that’s  still being speculated and debated, to be made by GOD.

Ok thats it, i better head home as Bangalore is now flooded, flooding and will be flooded with the heavy down pour. All the roads are practically closed. I don’t see a solution for that any time soon. May be its the GOD’s pee that is coming down, why should we drain it anyway. Let it flood the area, spread cholera, malaria … Oh No … It started raining again and i forgot to get my kayak !!! …

Co-ed, Muslims and a Fatwa

A simple query — whether pubescent girls can go to co-educational institutions — has set the cat among the pigeons, with Darul Uloom Deoband, issuing a fatwa against co-education for Muslims [TOI News report]

I have nothing against the Muslims, theirs is a great religion, but have to say these people are real a$$h0l3$..

With India almost topping the charts in the world wide AIDS survey, and given the global sex report (Virgin Indians), where are we going with such nonsense orders. Well u can prevent AIDS that way, but aint it better to teach them about condoms (WTF? and WTF is WTF????) and safe sex???

I’m not telling that we should go ahead and break all traditions, but curiosity will indeed kill that cat … I hope everyone got what i meant icon biggrin Co ed, Muslims and a Fatwa

What do these people gain from such orders? Media attention, fame … after that??? Does the meaning of ‘Free Country’, implies you can dictate over other people?

Ok i get it, all clergy of Darul Uloom Deoband, would have been cheated by their love during their teens. Thats the best guess i can make… icon smile Co ed, Muslims and a Fatwa What say???
