Cheerleader’s diary

Already the cheerleaders are causing heads to turn(or rather bend down and look up), distract batsmen, increasing stampedes near their place on the field.

Shobhaa De has written this hilarious article – Cheerleader’s diary.

I must say i couldn’t stop laughing …

Here are some excerpts

…Gee… I am like totally weirded out by this whole India gig. Like these Indians are majorly weird! Especially that minister dude from Mumbai who wants to ban us from shaking our pom poms. Come on, man. Chill out. It’s really hot out there. Like 40 degrees C, okay? What do you want us gals to wear? Eskimo suits? Oh oh, I get it — we are the ones getting the heat up, right baby? That’s our job, honey! We get paid for it. Ask that cutie with the big mama earstuds who hired us — Veejay. The bigger, the better, he said. We thought he was referring to the crowds in the stadium…

…Especially those handsome hunks with ponytails who are on the field playing some bizarro game that’s not half as much fun as baseball or soccer. We were told it’s called ‘Cricket’. What a cute name! I always thought cricket was an insect!…

…Occasionally, they also watch the game, especially when that funny umpire is dancing and prancing behind three sticks. The teams are like Russian salad, with players of all hues mixed up in the bowl. Our job is easy — we cheer for the boss’ team….

…Of course, there are some gross guys who ask us to bend forward for a better shot, but we aren’t stooopid. We turn around and show our fannies instead. Pretty smart, huh?…

….Indian chicks are way out wild, try clubbing with them… their moves would give pole dancers a complex. Maybe that minister dude should party with locals and scope the scene for himself…. night riding, anyone? We luv our groovy work and groovy undies errr, costumes….

Indian Premier League, The Commercialized Monstrosity

200px Ipl logo new Indian Premier League, The Commercialized MonstrosityI have nothing against cricket as a sport. But the way it is over commercialized is what i hate. And for that reasons IPL or the Indian Premier League.

Cricket is getting an unwanted publicity in India and this is not the way it is. But sadly it is. Having cricket matches are fine, but letting them spend billions just for a game, is that ever justified? But why billions, that too in a country when an average man is struggling to make his ends meet.

Ads, campaigns, publicity stunts. Do we need all these? Does the real spirit of the game still exist under such monstrosity? They play the game. Get paid handsomely and goes home. What happens to the poor common man who came to watch the matches and the others alike? The game is generating the wrong kind of passion among fans and followers. The sooner we realize this we can save the game and the future of the other games as well.

Already people have started to experience the headaches of IPL. Right now as i type, people are complaining that there is a huge traffic at MG Road, Bangalore, close to the stadium where the match is underway. IPL site is down too(good). The only good thing about the whole IPL match is that, my manager has left early for the day and now i can sit and blog for the rest of the evening. The whole office looks very much deserted.

Will IPL ever pay for the loss in business and damages. The people who ‘owns’ the team has already confirmed that they are in loss. Huge loss in money, time, business and rest of the balance sheet will follow soon.

Why couldnt they just support the ICL? Not to mention the ICL finals was as gripping as the T20 Finals.

Cricket Virus

sa2 Cricket VirusA game that is nowhere gets a whole page of news. A foreign Tennis player gets half a page when he is victorious. Yet the Indian pair of Bhupathi and Sania just gets less than quarter a page. They represented India, and they were beaten in the finals. If we can create a huge fuss about Indian cricket loosing then we can celebrate their near title miss. I have no idea. Leave all that how many knew that they made it to the finals of the mixed doubles at Australian Open

Over the days i have come to hate Cricket. It has become the single most inappropriate game that the Indians pursue these days. Its no less than a masala flick from a skimpy clad bollywood actress. There is nothing that you can define which is worth to be defined as memorable or a truly historic. I can hear people shout out what about the win at Perth? What about the lack of sportsmanship that was displayed by the mighty Aussies. I say damn all that. It was all as good as the wardrobe malfunction at fashion shows – you got to see something that you generally don’t see.

A racist remark, umpiring errors, a whole nation roars against that, a dramatic decision by the governing body, gentleman behavior by the captain – i’m asking do we need all these hype. Do we need cricket to survive. With cricket we no longer consider our neighbor as the arch rival anymore, its an island, miles south. The nation is celebrating victories and is doing injustice to other sports.

I dont care if the team loses or wins. The media makes sure that news reaches me even if i dont want to read it. Its in the front page of every news paper, flash news on TV. get out on the road, every one speaks about that, at work place the screens will have the score board open and local commentators shout out updates. I’m sick of this. Cant we just have some other sports take the center stage.

Does anyone care about what is happening to the other players. May be the media should dedicate time for other sports as well. At least report on the pitiable conditions of the other players. May be it should just avoid reporting in cricket. They are not GODs. They don’t deserve so much of attention.

Indians wake up, its just a game. F**K cricket. Its not really worthy of any praise now.
